You've looked around your home, and something just isn't sitting well with you. You feel that it's lacking that certain something, and is looking a little drab and even outdated. Though there are many things you can do to change the look of your space, one of the easiest, quickest, and cheapest tasks to undertake is decorating your walls. Whether you use paint, stencils or wallpaper, there are plenty of ways to update your walls while still sticking to your interior decor budget.
Paint an Accent Wall
It's pretty typical for home owners to select a neutral colour for their walls in an effort to keep the space as welcoming and soothing as possible for everyone. Not only do these colours - such as beige, off-white and taupe - tend to stay in style for much longer periods of time than bolder, more vibrant colours, they appeal to the masses, which comes in handy when you're staging your home to sell. But if you absolutely are in love with a specific bright colour, like cobalt blue or ruby red, and are dying to see what it looks like on the walls, you could opt to paint one wall in that colour, rather than all four walls. That way, if you end up changing your mind down the road (which you probably will with extreme colours), it's a lot easier to repaint one accent wall rather than the entire room.
Use Textured Wallpaper
Textured wallpaper has been becoming more and more popular over the last couple of years. But it's not the kind of textured wallpaper that you may remember from the 19060s and 1970s. The more modern textured wallpaper is ultra sophisticated and stylish, which adds a certain level of class to a space. The texture adds a little bit of character as well, giving a room some decor without having to use art and accessories to bring out its personality. Whether using velvet or vinyl, textured wallpaper can give your interior that extra "oomph" you're looking for!
Use Stencils
Stencils are another great way to create a trendy, unique look without much effort. There are literally thousands of stencils available out there which can make the wall decorating process very simple and effective. All you need to do is select your theme, paint colour, and where you want to place the stencils, and you can create something that won't be found elsewhere. From chickens in the kitchen to raindrops in the living room, the possibilities are seemingly endless.
Choose One Wall to Fill with Art or Mirrors
There are other ways to cover a wall instead of just using paint or wallpaper. Instead of hanging art work and mirrors sporadically across the walls, why not choose one wall to house them all? This has been a go-to trend for wall decor for a number of years already, and is a look that probably won't be disappearing any time soon. If you're going to decorate with art, try to stick to pieces that are similar in theme, and with colours that complement each other, and change up the sizes of each piece. When using mirrors, use ones with different frames and sizes to create a work of art without any paint!
